Mike Kabisch, PMHNP-BC
Psychiatric Mental health Nurse Practitioner | Teens | Adults
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, stuck in patterns that no longer serve you, or simply looking for care that feels human and collaborative, you don’t have to navigate it alone. I offer a nonjudgmental, approachable space where we can slow things down, make mental health feel more understandable, and work together toward meaningful, sustainable change.
I believe healing begins with trust, honesty, and feeling genuinely known.
My Approach
I’m a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with a background rooted not only in mental health care, but in over 30 years of community work, addiction counseling, advocacy, and social services. My approach is collaborative, relational, and grounded in the understanding that effective treatment begins with listening– not assumptions.
I draw from evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), psychodynamic therapy, person-centered therapy, family systems work, and trauma-informed care. My goal is to make the language of mental health feel accessible and supportive rather than overwhelming or clinical.
I also believe strongly in collaborative care. With your consent, I work closely with therapists, physicians, and other providers to ensure treatment feels connected, thoughtful, and aligned with your goals.
Who I Work With
I work with:
My space is especially supportive for individuals looking for psychiatric care that feels approachable, conversational, and grounded in mutual respect.
What Sessions With Me Feel Like
Sessions with me are informal but professional, collaborative, and centered around creating emotional safety. I understand that opening up about mental health can feel vulnerable, intense, or even intimidating at times. Because of that, I prioritize ongoing check-ins, open communication, and flexibility throughout the process.
I don’t believe people should feel rushed, judged, or reduced to a diagnosis. Instead, we work together to better understand what’s happening beneath the surface and identify treatment approaches that genuinely fit your needs and goals.
Above all, I want clients to feel comfortable being honest– because trust is the foundation of meaningful care.

Beyond the Therapy Room
Although newer to practicing as a PMHNP, I’m not new to working with people. My background includes leading Seattle’s largest drop-in center for homeless youth, serving through Peace Corps and AmeriCorps, working with formerly incarcerated youth in Baltimore, and supporting DC’s homeless population as a licensed addiction counselor with So Others Might Eat (SOME).
Those experiences continue to shape the way I show up in this work– with humility, compassion, curiosity, and deep respect for the resilience people carry.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, playing video games with my 12-year-old son, taking walks with my wife, relaxing with my pitbull Mr. Pork Chop, and watching “bad” reality TV together.
Fun fact: I once had the opportunity to run a leg of the Olympic Torch relay for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The ability to build a trusting relationship, grounded in mutual respect, is everything.
